Where in San Diego is a good place to go mountain biking?

Manuel

I want to go with some friends hiking with our mountain bikes but I don' really know where... I live in San Diego Chula Vista. I cant waste much gas since I drive a V8 Bronco, so please something near by Chula Vista.

It be cool if the place would have any of these:
- Landscape (I want some nice pics, I am a photographer)
- Dirt Jumps
- Lake

Any help is welcomed Thanks

Answer
Camp Pendleton is great. Just don't get caught by the MP's, or caught in a live fire exercise.

Where are some good hotels to look at in the San Diego area?

Jasmine

I'm heading to San Diego in August and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a cheap, GOOD hotel around the area?
I'm looking for anything near the beach, or Sea World. I'm honestly not sure.

Answer
One of the cheapest hotels in San Diego, close to both the beach and Sea World is the Rodeway Inn, Pacific Beach. Rooms from $96 during August.

The hotel is conveniently located next to wonderful attractions such as Mission Bay Sea World and beaches.

The hotel guestrooms are spacious airy and feature tall-ceilings and ceiling fans. Helpful staff and proximity to the Pacific coast Sea World Mission Bay Golf Course and Water Park San Diego's premier family and marina facility with 27 miles of biking and hiking trails make this an excellent business traveller group or family vacation choice.

Exercise gym facilities available eat-in dining room with full continental breakfast and all-day coffee beverage service until midnight and business center with PC fax printer. Free parking is available.

What's the best affordable mountain/ cruise bike?

CRISTIAN

I'm really starting to like the bike scene and want to buy a good fast bicycle. Not one of those Walmart bikes but one that's affordable that are actually enjoyable to ride that would get me a good exercise but also easy to ride

Answer
Well...make up your mind. Mountain bike or cruiser? Neither one is an excellent choice for riding around the city and/or paved surfaces. Mountain bikes, with their knobby off-road tires & suspension parts only slow you down. Cruisers are heavy with usually only one gear or speed. Designed for short, leisurely rides at slow speeds.

I think what you're trying to describe is a hybrid - either a straight hybrid or a "performance hybrid" - some not call these "fitness bikes". Examples linked below from Giant.
Comfort/Hybrid bike - http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/model/sedona.dx/11509/55863/#specifications

Go to a bicycle shop or shops. Extensively test ride 3 or 4. Find one you like & buy it.

does biking slim thighs??

Ellie

i live in ny and ride my bike around the big pond in flushing meadow park that is mostly on level pavement but includes two hills. i normally bike twice a week and swim three times a week with breaks on saturday and sunday.

i have really thick thighs and they make me feel really self-conscience. especially because they look horrible in my uniform skirt so i ALWAYS where my pants that are baggy enough that people cant tell how big my thighs really are.

i want to know if what i am doing will slim down my thighs. i only started a month ago and i cant really tell if there has been any change.

Answer
I live in NYC too! Hey neighbor.

Alright, to keep things simple... basically you just have a lot of fuel stored at your thighs. To get rid of this fuel, you must use it quicker than it stores. So eat healthy, and try to consume only enough calories to sustain your activities. No more, no less.

You have to bike as often as you can so you can use this extra fuel up. Initially, it doesn't matter whether you bike with easy gears and go long distances or bike with harder gears and use brute force to go fast for short durations. Both will help you burn fat although using brute force to go as fast as you can might help use more fuel faster if you don't have that much time on your hands.

If all goes well, you thighs should start slimming. Now it's time to choose. Do you want big bulky muscular legs like the professionals or do you want slim fit legs?
There are two types of muscles. One is fast-twitch and one is slow-twitch.
Fast-twitch muscles are the ones you see on body builders and weight lifters. They're huge and they pack a hard punch but they don't have as much endurance as slow-twitch muscles.
Slow-twitch muscles are the lean muscles you see on ballerina. They're lean and they don't have big bursts of power but they can last long periods of time. If you ever watch the movie "The Game Plan" you'll see that The Rock struggles to learn ballet because his muscles can't endure the long exercises. This is because it is harder for glycogen (food for the muscle cells) to reach the cells if your muscles are huge. Slim muscles recover quickly because glycogen can reach each muscle cell quickly. Slim athletes get tired less quickly.

To change your muscle composition, you must consistently use your muscles a certain way. Assuming you want slim, lean muscles, you must do light exercises for long periods of time. This means that you have to take time out of your schedule and ride your bike for long periods of time without using brute force. Just ride in moderate paces for as long as you can. It takes a lot of patience to build lean muscles because it's tempting to show off your strength, tire yourself out and end up with bulky muscles.

If you do want big quad muscles on your thighs, take up a protein-based diet and sprint as hard as you can, recover, sprint as hard as you can, recover, and so on. This will break down muscle cells quickly and build new ones with the extra protein you eat.

But, don't think about which type of muscle you want until you see real progress in slimming your thighs. For now, just focus on burning the fat by riding as often as you can and eating healthy. I mean, what's the point of having big or lean muscles when you can't see them right?

There's lots of neat places in NYC to check out by bike like Rockaway beach, Hudson River Park, and Riverside. You can burn fat and explore! Make it your goal to go somewhere further than usual and bike back home. Go as far as you can and don't anticipate the ride home. This way, you'll be forced to ride home no matter how tired you are. Sign up for bike events such as tours, club rides, and eventually centuries. There's the Five Boro Bike Tour that covers 42 miles with 30,000 cyclists from all around the world. Riding with so many people in such a big event distracts the fact that you're exercising and makes it enjoyable. People of all ages and body types do it every year. You can also sign up for the free Tour de Brooklyn, Tour de Bronx, and Tour de Queens.

Anyways, good luck, have fun, and I hope my advice can guide you.

What's the benefit of using a Treadmill over an exercise bike?

Q. What are the main differences of using a treadmill over an exercise bike? I'd like to know what parts of the body each work out and which ones are the best to burn fat the fastest and help build endurance. Thanks!!

Answer
The treadmill is best for you.
The treadmill burns more body fat and builds leg muscles faster. In order to lose weight you have to build the major muscles first. More muscles, more fat burns.
The treadmill is better because you are carrying your weight on your whole body frame and muscles. The bike you are sitting down and using the large leg muscles mostly. Anytime you carry your weight along you are better off.
When you ride a bike outdoors you are carrying your body around so it is better than on a bike in a home. But then running, jogging, and walking is better yet since your body is not on wheels, it must propell yourself forward on its own. This uses your main muscles.

The treadmill can use all major body muscles if your also swing your arms when you walk. If you hand on it only works the legs, buttocks, and back. It is not used to firm your abs but you can still lose fat from the abs as your burn it.

The treadmill also builds endurance faster as it is the same as running, jogging and walking. You build your cardio. The bike does the same but much slower (unless your are biking outdoors for long distances).

Make sure you buy a good top brand treadmill that can take the constant pounding. Many you get for $600 or under break down all the time. If you do get a cheaper on buy the service plan and if you then have problems all the time they will fix or take it back. Sears has these plans. Treadmills take constant abuse and they need to be a top notch peice of equipment. The best are the ones used at Gyms. And sometimes you can buy those when they upgrade.
Good Luck

How to use exercise bike as cardio training?

Tinker

hi im currently on a diet and now i have about 10kg left to lose, today a bought an exercise bike, and the sales man told me not to start toning as if i do so i will stop loosing weight, i need to do some cardio exercise to lose more weight, what is the difference between toning and cardio, how do i use the bike so that i will be doing cardio??

Answer
Basically, you need to exercise to elevate your heart rate (you should be out of breath). This sort of exercise is the most calorie intensive and therefore burns any excess fat quickly. Interval training is a great way to do this. Simply cycle at a pace that you find difficult for five minutes, then drop to a slower recovery pace for the next five. Keep alternating between the two paces for half an hour at first. You'll be able to increase this once you gain fitness and endurance. Using the bike in this way will provide you with a much more effective workout than simply cycling at a steady pace for the same amount of time.

Is this good enough for me?!?

xx_xx

I'm 16, i'm 5ft 6, i weigh 9 stone-ish and my measurements are 34-27-37. I want to lose around a stone and drop 2-3 inches of my stomach and 2 inches off my hips in 45 days. Is it possible with this workout and a sensible diet?

Mon, Wed, Thurs
20 mins eliptical, 10 mins bike, 5 mins rowing then weight machines (arm curl, seated dip, tricep extensions, abdominals, abdominal crunches, rotary torso, leg press, leg extension, hip abductor and calf press) at 3 x 20 reps each, then 10 mins treadmill to cool down.

Sun:
30 mins eliptical, 15 mins bike, 10 mins rowing, then weight machines (same machines as before) 4 x 20 reps, then 10 mins treadmill to cool down.

Also, if it's possible could you tell me which stretches are best for before and after the workout. And what's the difference between a recumbent bike, a hybrid bike and an upright bike.Thankyou!

Answer
Have you asked your local library's help desk to show you their exercise and stretching section? Even though it's old, Bob Anderson's book on stretching is still widely regarded.

There are two kinds of bicycles, upright and recumbent.

Hybrid bikes are a type of upright bike. Road and mountain bikes are the other types of upright bikes. All three have a diamond frame. (If you just look at the frame without the fork -- the thing that holds the front wheel -- an upright bike frame looks like a diamond) The difference between them is that a hybrid has some road bike characteristics and some mountain bike characteristics. It's not meant for long distance road rides nor heavy-duty off-road rides. Mountain bikes have heavy-duty frames and tires and sometimes a suspension system. They're inefficient for road rides. Road bikes have strong but light frames and tires and handlebars designed for an low, aerodynamic crouch. They're really comfortable on long road rides and ride fast. All upright bikes have the rider positioned over the pedals.

Recumbent bikes put the rider in a reclining position and pedal down the road feet first. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recumbent_bicycle. Some people have to use them because of health issues -- paraplegics or neck/back troubles. Other people ride them for aesthetics.

Another issue between upright and recumbent bikes is cost. Diamond frames cost a little less because of production quantities and economics.

Is this good enough for me?

Should I get a stationary recumbent bike?

Madison

I need to get 45 mins of cardio in each day for my health. I'm thinking of getting a stationary recumbent bike for inside. My only concern is I know a lot of times when people buy exercise equipment it never gets used and just sits there then gets thrown in the dump or at a garage sale. Should I get one?
If you have any other exercise ideas, please feel free to let me know. Keep in mind that I live in Texas and it is sweltering hot here (with the humidity it feels like 102 right now), and if I'm in the heat like that I tend to get heat stroke, so that's why I was thinking something indoors. I can't join a gym because of finances. I've got to do something cardio though because I have over 100 lbs to lose.

Answer
well just ask yourself if your going to be one of those people. if you can be determined to do it than i think it is a wonderful idea. if you cant get 45 minute in on it a day try to do some other activities like walking. it is also great for your health. good luck

How much did pay for the exercise equipment that you never use?

lifescircl

Answer
Ha! ha! This is a great question. We were just cracking up on Saturday because I had a yard sale and my gf's were like "D*mn! You have an ENTIRE gym in your garage and it's covered in dust and cobwebs!" LOL I always think I have to have the "best" of everything so I would never settle for the $200.00 Sears treadmill ... Nooooooo .... I had to have the $1,600 treadmill ... the gym quality $2,500 Stairmaster, the $1,200 recumbent bike, an entire dumbell set and heavy duty weight rack worth about $ 2,000.

So did it pay off in the end? Well ... you'd think I look darn good with a complete 24 Hour Fitness at home ... but, uh, did ya catch the part about cobwebs? =) You'd never look at me and think I own all that ... but the equipment looks d*mn good ... yea ... it sure does ... and that's all that matters right??

Ummm, perhaps I am missing something here ...

LOL

Peace ...

How do i go about buying an exercise bike?

Elise

Im looking to buy a used exercise bike, but honestly, i have no idea what to look for!
What qualities should i look for in the bike? I wanted to find something relatively cheap, but i also dont want something thats a complete piece of junk you know?
Any advice?

Answer
There are 3 general categories of exercise bike:
1. Upright resistance. The upright uses a flywheel or fan for resistance. Stay away from the fan since they are much louder. Flywheel types often use belts or other friction material so always check them if buying a used one.
2. Recumbent. This is the one where you sit low to the ground and put your legs out forward. These are good if you have a back condition. The only true way to see if you like them is to try them for a workout. They have similar resistance units to the upright types.
3. Spinner. These have a direct drive meaning they don't allow you to stop pedaling unless you have an emergency stop device. They are probably the best workout, but are definitely not for everyone especially if you have knee trouble.

A quick and dirty way to see the condition of the unit is to check ride it, check the pedals for wear and if they're bent. You'll also be able to listen and see if the resistance unit feels smooth and quiet. If not, something is wrong and walk away.

Try all 3 types out at a local health club. That's the best way to see what works for you. You can often pay for just one visit and not have to get a membership.
Try the local classifieds and CraigsList in you local for a used one and hopefully have a friend with minivan or pickup. Used is the only way that you'll get a worthwhile unit for low cost.

Belt Exercise Bike question?

Steve

I have an older belt exercise bike and it is pretty noisy when using it and when you put it in a higher gear it just seems to not flow when pedaling. Is there something can put on it to make is quieter and make the pedaling more fluent?

Answer
You could try some basic chain lube on the wheel to make it quieter if you haven't already. when you say a higher gear do you mean just the amount of tension? if so, you might have a warn out break pad or it's not in adjustment.

What's the best brand of treadmills/exercise bikes?

debsters b

As in quality and price?

Answer
for a spinner, I have had some great workouts on a johnny G spinner.

trainers- if you have a bike and want to strap it to a trainer, I reccommend a cycleops fluid trainer.

for a gym-like excercise bike, try testing out a lifecycle bike, they aren't bad, but you don't get much in road simulation.

good luck.

How to make a bike pedal generator?

blagh8

I need to know how I can modify an existing exercise bike into an electrical generator in the most cost effective method.
The exercise bikes I'm kind of referring to looks like this http://us.home.lifefitness.com/content.cfm/club-series-recumbent-lifecycle-exercise-bike

Answer
A belt or pulley must run from the bike to the generator. Good luck. Lance Armstrong would have trouble cranking out the watts to watch TV while he peddled, huh?
If you wanted to go green it might be better to recycle (pardon the pun...ha!) and old bike. All the gearing, wheel, crank etc would already be exposed in stead of taking your "exercise bike" apart-see? A basic generator is available on line or at a salvage yard. Take the tireoff of the rear wheel, run the belt to the pulley end of the generator run the wires and knock yourself out.
Honestly it might be a fun hobby or a good example for the kids BUT I've seen people struggle to keep a light bulb going...about 60 watts from the info I get.

PS: Go green! Yaaay!

Pros and cons for living in or near Houston, Texas.?

Sheila

Boyfriend is relocating to Houston, Texas. I agreed to move away from my beloved Georgia swampland with my mate. What can I expect? I've heard so many horror stories about Houston and my (grown) son fears for my safety. [Is it that bad].

I would really appreciate both sides and please be honest with me. I have family here and I am really nervous about leaving them.
I appreciate the input so far.
Humidity seems to be about the same as South East Georgia, if so I can handle that - maybe.
The community I was thinking of was West of Houston, Katy or Weimer seemed nice (as far as I can tell by the net).

Answer
Houston is a wonderful city, but like any other large city, you need to be educated on what areas to avoid. I would stay north and west, avoid the east side. I grew up in one of the southern small towns, and there are many good areas in which to live. If you want to have good access to what the city has to offer such as shopping, museums, restaurants, etc., living in the northwest to west sides of town would be the best. My family and I live in the northwest, FM1960/Copperfield area. This is a "master-planned" community, which is desirable due to Houston's lack of consistent zoning laws. (This means you cannot park a trailer next to a nice home, or leave a rusted car in your yard and get away with it!) In my area, people get out at night and walk their dogs, ride bikes, etc. We don't lock our door when leaving during the day, it's that safe!

Now, Houston is a prairie. It is very flat. If you want the tall-tree, forest-like areas, go north. If you live out west, you can expect prairie-like scenery with very few mature trees. South of Houston, you have the beginnings of marshland as you get closer to Galveston. You will have fun in Galveston, by the way! East, you have chemical plants.

I don't know where you have heard horror stories, and I am sorry about that, because Houston really is a comfortable, friendly city. We have had some increase in crime rate since the hurricane, but overall it is very safe. Don't walk through downtown at night by yourself (in other words, exercise your common sense).

Get a good realtor - this is important. Even if you are not going to buy yet, a good realtor can steer you to the right areas of town. The good news is that Houston's cost of living/housing is extremely low compared to other cities. You'll be surprised at how much house you can get for the money.

Interstate 10, which runs west, can be a nightmare traffic-wise. That's because everyone wants to live west. Highway 290 running to Austin is the same way (which runs northwest, to my area). You just have to learn the times to hit the freeway. Work locally in your neighborhood if you can; you will save yourself fatigue from driving. I'm a teacher, so this is easy for me; if you are unable to do so, you will learn to leave early to make traffic.

You know, when you move to a new city, it should be fun to share your experiences with your family in Georgia. Heck, they will probably want to come visit you. Do not worry about moving here; you will come to love it! Good luck!!!

what is biking EXERCISE?

unique_ija

IM FROMINDIA I DONO WHT IS BIKING CAN ANY ONE EXPLAIN ME IN DETAIL

Answer
Biking exercise is Getting on your bike regularly not only gets you where you want to go faster than a car, it protects you against a wide range of ill health, and also makes you feel better.

Everyday cycling, where the exercise leaves you breathing heavily but not being out of breath is an effective and enjoyable form of aerobic exercise. This is the type of exercise that is most effective at promoting good health. For example, cycling reduces the risk of serious conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity and the most common form of diabetes.
One rough calculation suggests that new cyclists covering short distances can reduce their risk of death (mainly due to the reduction of heart disease) by as much as 22 per cent.

What's better exercise biking or running?

Mike

Answer
Actually they both are the better exercise - it just depends on what you plan to take from either one.

Running is weight-bearing, in that (done correctly) it will increase load/stress on your bones and many times increase bone density.

Cycling takes the stress of your body weight off your legs, but you still are putting in a workout depending on how fast you bike, the time you spend biking, and if you are biking against a wind, cross country, etc.

They are both cardiovascular, help strengthen your heart and lungs, and increase your metabolism and calorie use.

The better exercise will be the one that you decide you like most, though many cyclists run on their off days, and many runners bike on their rest days.

Basic types of bicycle
Exploring categories of bike, for general and specialised riding
Apr 13, 2007 Jon Sparks

What is a road bike? What's a mountain bike? What the heck is a hybrid? This article starts to make sense of the mulitiplicty of different types of bicycle.

In some countries, especially places like Holland and Denmark, itâs perfectly normal to have several bikes; many people will have four or five, some will have more. Itâs less common, but not unheard of, in the UK or North America (bike nut and Hollywood star Robin Williams is reported to have around 60!).

If this proves anything, itâs that there are bikes for every niche. The converse is that there is no such thing as a bike that will do everything. A bike designed to hurl down big gnarly descents is not going to be much fun on long road rides - though it will at least survive, while if you tried to reverse the roles with a road bike neither it nor the rider would last long!

This article will outline the most important categories of bicycle and link to a discussion of some of the more specialised types. All of these will be explained in more detail, in due course, in further articles.

Perhaps the easiest type to define is the road bike. This has a direct kinship with the bikes used in the big races like the Tour de France; indeed, if you have the money, you can ride something virtually identical to what the pros are using. However, on good surfaces, a road bike is a joy to ride even if you arenât interested in competition.

Basic features are a light, stiff frame; narrow wheel rims and tyres; dropped handlebars and a generally uncompromising riding position (bars lower than saddle). True road bikes are very responsive; they will feel âtwitchyâ to ride compared to other types, and the riding position can take a little getting used to, but nothing translates effort into speed more effectively. Thatâs really nothing - not just other bikes (except track bikes and recumbents). No other machine even comes close.

At the other end of the scale is the mountain bike. This is actually harder to define, as some mountain bikes have full suspension, some have it at the front only and some have none at all. What all mountain bikes have in common is a sturdy frame and fat tyres. There are many sub-categories of mountain bike and these really deserve at least one article all to themselves. What adds to the confusion is that there are many bikes sold as mountain bikes which clearly arenât fit for purpose and would probably collapse the first time they had to deal with anything more challenging than a hump in the road.

Somewhere in between come the hybrids. (Other terms like street bike, city bike, urban or utility bike may also be used). These usually have flat bars and a more upright riding position than the pure road bike, but are lighter in frame, wheels and tyres than true mountain bikes. That said, thereâs a huge range. Some would need no more than swapping the handlebars for a pair of drops to pass as a road bike. Others would need just a bigger, knobblier pair of tyres to cope with moderately serious mountain biking. There are many bikes badged as hybrids that have front suspension, and it does soak up the bumps on rough city streets and bike tracks.

If youâre new to cycling and donât have a very clear idea where it might take you, the best bet for an all-round bike has got to be something in the hybrid category. Especially if you are prepared to swap tyres occasionally, you can certainly get something that wonât feel like itâs holding you back on a speedy road spin one day, yet will square up confidently to stony forest singletrack the next.

But still, remember the old phrase, âjack of all trades, master of noneâ. If you have the finance, and the storage space, then owning more than one bike can be a very sound investment.

can riding a stationary bike tone up my legs? ?

candy_hoer

I only weigh 108 pds, but my skin is saggy on my legs, I'm riding a bike to try to tone up. will it help or is it a waste of time?

Answer
Yes, cycling is very good for toning the legs if you do it right. You want to pedal at a high cadence 70-90 rpm's with a lite pressure on the pedals. That will allow you to pedal longer and wont wear out your legs. You want to add just enough resistance to get your breathing to the point where you can still talk but not sing. Using toe clips or clippless pedals will also help tone your legs by allowing you to use more muscles in your legs.

You may want to get a bicycle to ride outside. A stationary bike is very boring and 15 min on one feels like and hour on a regular bike. Look for a hybrid or a comfort bike from the local bike shop. Never buy a bike from Walmart or other department store. You want to ride as often as you can and you need to increase the speed and distance as you progress.

Whats better going on the stationary bike fast or higher tension?

rachel

Answer
You want to go at 70-80 rpm for 15 minutes with low tension to warm up.
Then 80-90 rpm for about 45-75 minutes. The tension will be as high as you can and still keep that pace for that time. So you will have to pace yourself. Too much tension at first, you will not be able to complete the time.

You also have to determine your goals: wellness? fat burning? endurance? build up your cardiovascular system for competition? build up leg strength for sprinting like Mark Cavendish?

What exercises can I do after knee surgery?

Mike

My doctor tells me that I FUBARed my knee. I will be going into surgery, however, when I get out I do not want to just sit around for 6-8 months with my knee in a brace. What exercises can I do to keep my body in good condition? I am looking for some core training exercises, cardio (I obviously won't be able to ride my bike or run until I am healed), etc.

Thanks for the help.

Answer
Physical Therapy Exercises - Continue to do the exercises prescribed for at least two months after surgery. Riding a stationary bicycle can help maintain muscle tone and keep your knee flexible. Try to achieve the maximum degree of bending and extension possible.

Other Activities - Walk as much as you like, but remember that walking is no substitute for the exercises your doctor and physical therapist will prescribe. Swimming is also recommended; you can begin as soon as the sutures have been removed and the wound is healed, approximately 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. Acceptable activities include dancing, golfing (with spikeless shoes and a cart), and bicycling (on level surfaces). Avoid activities that put stress on the knee. These activities include: tennis, badminton, contact sports (such as football, baseball), squash or racquetball, jumping, squats, skiing, or jogging. Do not do any heavy lifting (more than 40 lb) or weight lifting.

Hope this helps. =)

Best exercise for me since I have had knee surgery?

zita

I had some minor knee surgery a few months ago and am still not totally healed. (I had 50% of the meniscus removed due to a bad tear) I desperately need to exercise to assist in losing weight. Does anyone have a suggestion of something I could do that would not be detrimental to my knee? I am sure that as the weight comes off, I will be able to do more. I just need something to get "jump started" with exercise. Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer
I would consult your surgeon to get a recommendation for physical therapy. Then your insurance would cover all but the co-pay. They will show you exercises that you can practice at home, gym or pool.

Swimming, walking, using a treadmill and stationary bike worked for me in addition to the maintaining a healthy diet and those exercises recommended by the PT. I tried the elliptical, but it was too difficult with my knee. (My surgeon wants me to wait until I am 70 to replace the knee, but I did lose 80#)

Good luck!

Opinion on exercise bike?

colorguard

I love to bike and i need to lose weight. I would get a regular bike but i live in the middle of nowhere and the roads are not that safe to ride with a bike. So would it be a good idea to get an exercise bike? Would it help to lose weight when combined with other exercises??

Answer
I absolutley love my exercise bike!! It is a York c301 Diamond and cost me $650 on sale. It has many different programs and I have it set up in a room with a tv right infront of it. Whenever i am bored, looking for something to do or feel like exercising safely, I jump on the bike. I love it and would highly recommend it. The seat is big and comfy and it has an electronic screen that records, calories, speed and distance.
It has been the best money ever spent.
Go for it, it really sounds like you are a perfect candidate for one.

Excersise bike question.?

I do 20 minutes a day on my new excersise bike i shift 100 calories i get really bad tummy ache i feel that im constipated but im not as i've been to the tiolet not regular but took a senna tablet lastnight didn't work so there is obviously nothing there. i thought it was heart burn i took some gaviscon and renne and it reliefed it abit.
But the question is could my muscles be pulling getting stronger with me riding my bike would it tone up your tummy too this feeling could i be losing weight?

Answer
You want to start increasing your time on the exercise bike. Start out with an easy 10 min warm up ride. Start out very easy for the first few min and increase the resistance a little more after 5 min. After your warm up you want to pedal at a high cadence 70-90 rpm's with just enough resistance to get your breathing to the point where you can still talk but not sing.

Pedaling fast with a lite pressure will use your slow twitch muscles that burn fat as a fuel. Pedal speed will affect your breathing and resistance will affect your muscles. You want the correct balance between the two.

Start increasing the time on the bike. The stronger you get the more calories you burn in the same amount of time. A lot of people quit when they start sweating, you want to go beyond that. Drop back on the resistance and keep going for longer times. I know it's boring but once you get use to 30 min 15 feels way too short.

You can't spot reduce, you lose fat all over your body at the same time. Diet is more important then exercise for losing weight.

Exercising Bike Questions?

Imagina

I want to lose about thirty pounds and the only exercising equipment I have to use is a Exercising Bike.

My questions are:

-What speed should I ride?
-How much distance should I ride?
-How long should I ride?
-How many days a week should I ride?
-What part of the body will this take fat off of?
-If I rode at the right speed/distance/time how long would it take me tose about 15 pounds (that's my starting goal)

If it helps at all I am about five feet and two inches. And about 180 pounds.

Answer
What about walking? Do you have stairs at your home? Sorry, about being funny, but you can do exercise as long as you can get your shoes on and open the door.

As for the bike, if you love it, then do it. No more than 5 days a week for a maximum of 45 minutes at a slow, quicker, quickest pace, then back slow. Like this:

2 minutes slow
2 minutes a little quicker
30 seconds as fast as you can, then slow it down for a few minutes and repeat the process.

This is called interval training and is one of the most effective ways to burn body fat. It is also beneficial to do it first thing in the morning before your healthy breakfast as that is when your body will tap into the fat for energy.

You could lose the first 15 in about 4-5 weeks and then it should slow down to 1-2lbs a week. Drink lots of water and eat 5-6 smaller meals a day to stabilize blood sugar!

Good luck and have fun with it, let us all know how you do!
