What's the benefit of using a Treadmill over an exercise bike?

Q. What are the main differences of using a treadmill over an exercise bike? I'd like to know what parts of the body each work out and which ones are the best to burn fat the fastest and help build endurance. Thanks!!

Answer
The treadmill is best for you.
The treadmill burns more body fat and builds leg muscles faster. In order to lose weight you have to build the major muscles first. More muscles, more fat burns.
The treadmill is better because you are carrying your weight on your whole body frame and muscles. The bike you are sitting down and using the large leg muscles mostly. Anytime you carry your weight along you are better off.
When you ride a bike outdoors you are carrying your body around so it is better than on a bike in a home. But then running, jogging, and walking is better yet since your body is not on wheels, it must propell yourself forward on its own. This uses your main muscles.

The treadmill can use all major body muscles if your also swing your arms when you walk. If you hand on it only works the legs, buttocks, and back. It is not used to firm your abs but you can still lose fat from the abs as your burn it.

The treadmill also builds endurance faster as it is the same as running, jogging and walking. You build your cardio. The bike does the same but much slower (unless your are biking outdoors for long distances).

Make sure you buy a good top brand treadmill that can take the constant pounding. Many you get for $600 or under break down all the time. If you do get a cheaper on buy the service plan and if you then have problems all the time they will fix or take it back. Sears has these plans. Treadmills take constant abuse and they need to be a top notch peice of equipment. The best are the ones used at Gyms. And sometimes you can buy those when they upgrade.
Good Luck

How to use exercise bike as cardio training?

Tinker

hi im currently on a diet and now i have about 10kg left to lose, today a bought an exercise bike, and the sales man told me not to start toning as if i do so i will stop loosing weight, i need to do some cardio exercise to lose more weight, what is the difference between toning and cardio, how do i use the bike so that i will be doing cardio??

Answer
Basically, you need to exercise to elevate your heart rate (you should be out of breath). This sort of exercise is the most calorie intensive and therefore burns any excess fat quickly. Interval training is a great way to do this. Simply cycle at a pace that you find difficult for five minutes, then drop to a slower recovery pace for the next five. Keep alternating between the two paces for half an hour at first. You'll be able to increase this once you gain fitness and endurance. Using the bike in this way will provide you with a much more effective workout than simply cycling at a steady pace for the same amount of time.
