I do 10k/6.2 miles a day on my exercise bike. Is that enough to lose weight?

Jake

I know there is no clear cut answer to this question but if there are any serious riders out there, would you say that, typically, 10k each morning, 6 days a week, is a good cycling regime to lose weight, assuming that I stick to a fairly good diet and less than 2000 cals per day?

Resonate.

Answer
It's a good start but you want to increase the time and effort a little more each week. You body will adapt to the same exercise very quickly and burn less calories. Start out with an easy 10 min warm up and then start pedaling at 70-90 rpms with just enough resistance to get your heart rate to about 85% of max. On a real bike you burn about 35 calories per mile 22 per km. Exercise bikes are easier the the real thing so you will burn less. I would do 30 min and work up to a hour. If you are not sweating after 15 min you are not doing it right.

I have a bike in my trainer and try to do 35-45 min at a time on it. It gets too boring after that. I use to be able to get my heart rate to a little over max. I usually watch TV and crank it up during the commercials.

Your diet will do a lot more toward your weight loss then any amount of exercise. The exercise is good for your heart and to tone your legs and butt.

Do you exercise....?
