Gabby
I have been going biking every day for varying amounts of time.. I am sure it does help, but would a different form of exercise, like running, roller blading, be significantly more effective?
Oh, and as a side note - if anyone knows how I can build my arms up more, I'd appreciate it :) I am doing push -ups, but is there anything else? I am trying to get better at softball - I figure arm strength would help ;D
Answer
Biking is also good because it's low-impact. Easy on your joints. It's best to have variety in your exercise routines, so bike once in a while, then run, then rollerblade, then swim...
As for arms, push-ups are really great - good for biceps, triceps, pectorals and abs, too (if you're doing them right :)
You could also try picking up two 5 or 8 lbs hand weights and get a routine of various arm lifts and curls to work the various muscles in your arms.

If I tighten my abs while riding my exercise bike will that help tone the abs?
Answer
It might but how long can you hold on to the tightened stance while riding a bike?
Hard.
I suggest you do these abs exercises, to tighten, flatten and tone your abs:
1. Bicycle maneuver
2. Crunch on exercise ball
3. Captain's chair
These 3 are touted as the most effective abs exercises and proven as well (by American Council of Exercise).
