What is a good exercise bike?

baminn88

I am looking to get back into shape and want to get a bike.My bf would also be using it and he is already in shape so i need something that would be a challenge for him as well

Answer
Get a spin bike something like this will work. The problem with stationary bikes is the boredom, a 30 min routine feels like hours. Get a real bike and get on the road or rail trails and have a lot more fun. You can always put the bike on a trainer in the winter or when the weather gets bad.

Do regular bicycle pedals fit exercise bikes?

kbmoose1

I have a Proform Tour De France and the left pedal is bad. They are sending me a new pedal, but it might be 2-3 weeks before it arrives.

I wonder if a regular pedal from my local bicycle shop would fit? Short of buying a pedal and trying it, how can I find out? (I did a web search and got no answer. Tried several combinations, all I got was websites selling the entire stationary bike.)

Answer
Yes pedals are standard. You need to figure out if they are 1/2" or 9/16". The left one has left handed threads. Take a 15 mm wrench and remove it.

The ProForm should use a 9/16" pedal. They look like a Wellgo pedal with toe clips.

Edit:
All the pedals they show as accessories on the ProForm site are 9/16" clipless. I would go ahead and buy SPD pedals and shoes.

Get the shoes at the local bike shop and pedals online.
