I just road my exercises bike for the first time. 40min, 8miles. I'm not really feeling much? I thought my legs would be really sore after. Given I just got off 10 min ago. But still. Are elliptical machines better then bikes? I really HATE treadmill so if they are a lot of those then I probably wont use it much.
Any advice?
I don't have a lot of time to go outside and walk, I can usually get out there once a day and walk between 1.5-2 miles with the dogs but that's it.
My goal is to tone my legs, I store all my fat there so I'd like to loose fat there as well as tone them.

I'm like you, I hate the treadmill, but i rate bike above eliptical in terms of fitness and fat burning potential.
With legs and a bike, you really have to push it. Instead of doing flat rate cardio for 40 minutes, which can be pretty borring, try HIIT (high intensity interval training). Goes something like this:
1 min all out sprint
1 min slow pace
repeat for 10 minutes (and gradually over the weeks build this up to 20)
The idea is that you never quite get enough time to fully recover from the sprint. I guarantee you will be exhausted by the end with legs feeling like jelly. Another great thing about HIIT is you feel like you achieved something after and it will burn just as much fat in 10-15 minutes as 40 - 60.
Good luck

Suggestions for starting HIIT workout routine?

I have changed my diet and lost 30 pounds over the last 7 months, and have increased my exercise (weight lifting, walking, stationary bike) in the last 2 months. I am pleased with the results, but have hit a plateau with the weight loss. I still have 20 pounds to go to reach my goal, so I have tried incorporating High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).
My first workout was on the exercise bike doing a 5 minute warmup followed by four minutes of 6 seconds at 100% effort and 9 seconds at 50% and 5 minutes cool down. This workout absolutely kicked my butt.
The trouble came when I tried my second HIIT workout three days later. My legs just couldn't do it! After just 1 minute, I had to stop.
Is there a better way to start incorporating HIIT into my schedule? I don't mind working hard, I just want to be sure I'm not doing more damage than good.
Thanks!

yeah hiit is harder on your legs. i would say you might want to just do 1 day of hiit for the first couple of weeks, the rest of your training should be low-impact cardio and weights of corse. if your legs are still sore from a previous trainins session, you deff shouldnt give 100%. also i dont think you should do hiit the day after you workout your legs. try doing more walking, jogging, eliptical, and jump rope for your regular cardio workouts, but add in hiit for just one day when you feel like you have enough energy. hiit is killer lol, i just started doing it too and man, wow, i feel the difference too. anyways im sure you can bump up the # of training days as your body gets used to that kind of training. hope this helps
